Modern Winter Wedding Inspiration in Austin, TX at The Arlo

Let’s break down one of our favorite weddings to date- Annsley and Chris’s modern black and white wedding in Austin, TX at the show-stopping Arlo venue.

About the bouquet

Annsley knew she wanted something romantic that felt at home in the very modern Arlo, so we opted for a wild shape, tons of texture, and a beautiful black-and-white palette that just worked.

Annsley’s initial email was so very different from my usual inquiries- she came in hot with a table mock-ups, very clear guidelines for design, and included a color palette that included greenery “at about 5%” of the overall look. Music to my ears, because so much of the guesswork was removed and I could get to the heart of her style and preferences.

Head table dreams

When I rolled up with a box of papaya and grapes I got some distressed looks from the catering team, but they added so much interest to this head table

The original plan was to add the bridesmaid bouquets in brass vases along the head table for extra oomph- but it really took away from the sweeping lines and wild, romantic look, so we opted to place them at the buffet, bar, cake, etc. to ensure everything looked stunning in photos- and you don’t miss them at all in the wedding album.

Eye Candy

Be sure your florist plans for people to toast and make eye contact throughout your wedding. Weddings are about connection in all its forms- your flowers shouldn’t interfere.

Despite her truly wonderful moodboard from a previous life as a wedding planner- she also gave me the flexibility and trust to make changes as the weather and guest count changed before her big day.

A clear winner

We swapped black wood stands for these custom acrylic pillars only three weeks out from the big change and it’s hard to imagine anything different

One of the things that I think made this wedding so special is Annsley’s trust in my ability to get her the look she wanted inside of her desired budget- which meant we worked together to find solutions that kept every table beautiful, unique, and overall in budget. Best way to do that? Mix the centerpieces up.

BBW (Big B&W)

Beautiful anemone, white dahlia, and dreamy textural details for our primary centerpieces

Airy + Light

Bud Vases and flower frog arrangements paired with candlelight made for the dreamiest centerpieces that kept conversation flowing.

Long and Lean

We used a whopping 108 candles along a smattering of tables

What can you take away from this wedding for your own?

1) Get the candles, they really will transform your space

2) Mix and match looks to allow space for show-stopping head tables, ceremony arrangements, and bouquets

3) Fruit belongs on tables

4) Don’t repurpose your bouquets for the tables- it never looks as good as it sounds.

There’s so many great pictures of this wedding that I had to make another gallery. Enjoy!!!
